Facilitated by the Kevron Group, the programme provided participants with hands-on exposure to sustainable living practices, innovative environmental solutions, and professional networking opportunities with peers and industry experts passionate about environmental stewardship.
Adebowale Tolulope, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Environmental Protection Matters, explained that the initiative was prompted by a recognition of gaps in current career trends. She emphasized that the training aims to prepare participants for the growing global focus on sustainability and to cultivate a workforce capable of supporting the State’s environmental goals.
“In this training, we didn’t just focus on environmental sustainability alone; we also covered frameworks, government laws, and policies, ensuring participants understand compliance requirements if they are employed as sustainability managers or Environmental Sustainability Goal (ESG) consultants,” Tolulope said.
Participants who successfully completed the programme received certification following rigorous assessments. Tolulope also highlighted the programme’s networking opportunities, which enabled attendees to identify gaps in the sustainability sector and develop potential solutions for both local and global challenges.
Shadrach Fowode, an ESG consultant with Kevron Consulting Limited and one of the facilitators, noted that the course was designed to help participants integrate environmental and developmental sustainability into corporate and societal contexts. He commended the Lagos State Government for its robust enforcement of environmental laws through LASEPA, ensuring organizations adhere to sustainability standards.
Fowode added that the State has implemented protective measures, including whistleblowing policies and reporting channels, allowing residents to easily flag hazardous environmental incidents to authorities.
Similarly, Oladipupo Ariyo, a final-year mechanical engineering student at Lagos State University (LASU), described the training as exceeding his expectations, noting that it broadened his understanding of climate action, the Sustainable Development Goals, and practical steps individuals can take to positively impact the environment.
The initiative reflects Lagos State’s commitment to building a skilled, environmentally conscious workforce capable of driving sustainable development across the region.
