Optus has fully restored National Broadband Network (nbn) services in Brisbane and across parts of Queensland following a significant outage that left tens of thousands of customers offline, the company said on Thursday.

According to Optus, the disruption—affecting roughly 95,000 customers—was triggered on Wednesday by a network server failure at the Rochedale Brisbane Exchange. The outage hit households and businesses relying on the company’s nbn broadband service, though key communication channels remained operational.

In an emailed statement to Reuters, Optus emphasized that the incident did not impact emergency “000” call capabilities or the company’s mobile network. Customers using Voice-over-Internet services, however, may have experienced additional difficulties if they were operating older modems that lacked 4G or 5G fallback options.

The latest outage comes at a delicate time for the Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel)-owned provider. Just two months ago, Optus faced intense scrutiny after two emergency call disruptions affected thousands of Australians and were linked to four fatalities, prompting a parliamentary inquiry into the company’s network resilience and crisis response.

Singtel, Optus’s parent company, has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for comment regarding Wednesday’s incident.
