SoftBank in Advanced Talks to Acquire DigitalBridge, a Major Digital Infrastructure Firm

SoftBank Group is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire DigitalBridge Group, a New York-listed private equity firm specializing in data centers and digital infrastructure, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The potential deal could be announced as soon as December 29, though terms have not been finalized and details remain subject to change.

Led by CEO Marc Ganzi, DigitalBridge had approximately US$108 billion in assets under management as of the end of September. Its portfolio includes major operators such as AIMS, AtlasEdge, DataBank, Switch, Vantage Data Centers, and Yondr Group.

Following the initial news of acquisition talks in early December, DigitalBridge shares surged 45%, boosting its market capitalization to around US$2.5 billion and its enterprise value, including debt, to US$3.8 billion.

SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son has been steadily increasing the company’s investments in digital infrastructure, aiming to capitalize on growing demand for artificial intelligence and data-heavy technologies.
