Nigeria’s Super Eagles have opened discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over a demand for higher bonuses ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

According to reports by SCORENigeria, the NFF has proposed a performance-based bonus structure that would increase as the team progresses through the tournament. However, the players are said to be dissatisfied with the offer and are pushing for an improved financial package.

The Super Eagles reportedly believe they are entitled to higher bonuses following the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) recent decision to increase prize money for the competition. CAF announced last weekend that the winners of the 2025 AFCON will now receive $10 million, a significant increase from previous editions.

At the 2023 tournament, defending champions Côte d’Ivoire earned $7 million for lifting the trophy on home soil, while Nigeria took home $4 million after finishing as runners-up.

With the financial stakes now higher, the Super Eagles are keen to secure a bonus structure that reflects the increased rewards on offer, as negotiations with the NFF continue ahead of the continental showpiece.
