Strong audience turnout greeted the UK opening of Nollywood star Toyin Abraham’s latest film, Oversabi Aunty, as the actress expressed appreciation to fans following a successful debut weekend in select Odeon Cinemas.

The filmmaker, who directed, produced and starred in the comedy-drama, took to Instagram to acknowledge the overwhelming support from viewers in the United Kingdom. In an emotional post that attracted thousands of likes and comments, Abraham described the reception as massive, thanking her UK-based fans for turning out in large numbers during the film’s first three days of screening.

She also encouraged moviegoers who are yet to see the film to do so while it remains in cinemas, noting that Oversabi Aunty is still showing in selected Odeon locations across the UK.

The UK release follows the film’s impressive performance in Nigeria, where it premiered in cinemas on December 19, 2025. Within 11 days, Oversabi Aunty reportedly grossed over ₦382 million, making it one of the year’s biggest Nollywood box office successes and securing the second-highest opening weekend of 2025.

The international rollout underscores the growing global reach of Nigerian cinema, particularly among diaspora audiences who continue to support homegrown productions abroad.

Oversabi Aunty tells the story of Toun, a devoted church usher whose well-meaning but intrusive attempts to solve other people’s problems spiral into comedic chaos, eventually uncovering deeper family truths. The film blends humour with social commentary on faith, family relationships and personal boundaries.

The ensemble cast features Mike Ezuruonye, Efe Irele, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Queen Nwokoye and veteran actress Ngozi Ezeonu, adding depth to the film’s mix of comedy and drama.

Fans reacting to Abraham’s post flooded the comment section with congratulatory messages and celebratory emojis, reaffirming the strong support base she enjoys in the UK. The response further highlights the sustained international interest in Nollywood productions and the rising profile of its leading stars.
