The appointment follows the planned retirement of the outgoing Chair, Mr. Emmanuel Nnorom, who will step down at the end of this year. The transition marks a strategic leadership handover aimed at strengthening the company’s position in the competitive hospitality industry.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, Dr. Elumelu brings a wealth of leadership experience across healthcare, insurance, corporate governance, and philanthropy. She currently chairs Avon Healthcare Limited (Avon HMO), Nigeria’s leading health insurance provider, as well as Avon Medical Practice, a fast-growing network of hospitals and clinics. Additionally, she serves as Chair of Heirs Insurance Brokers and is a founding Director of Heirs Holdings Limited.
Dr. Elumelu’s extensive medical background includes an MBBS degree from the University of Benin and clinical experience both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Her medical expertise is further complemented by executive training from globally recognized institutions such as Harvard Business School, IMD Switzerland, and the London School of Economics.
Beyond her professional and corporate achievements, Dr. Elumelu is widely recognized for her commitment to social impact. She is a Trustee and Co-Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Africa’s leading philanthropic organization supporting young entrepreneurs. Under her stewardship, the Foundation has empowered over 24,000 African youths through seed capital, mentorship, and training, with a strong emphasis on gender inclusion.
