The crash occurred at about 11am in Makun, Ogun State, near the Sagamu Interchange, when a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and four other adult males collided with a stationary truck. Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said preliminary findings suggest the vehicle may have been travelling above the speed limit and lost control while overtaking.
Joshua, 36, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for medical attention. Police confirmed he was conscious after the incident. The other two surviving passengers were reported to be unharmed.
Footage circulating on social media shows the former world heavyweight champion appearing dazed and in visible discomfort as he was assisted from the damaged vehicle by bystanders. Authorities have not commented on the authenticity of the videos but confirmed that Joshua was among those involved in the crash.
Tragically, two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released. The bodies have been conveyed to Livewell Hospital Mortuary in Sagamu.
In a statement, the Ogun State Police Command expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is under way. Further updates are expected as inquiries continue.
