Babalola made the declaration on Monday during activities marking the 16th anniversary of the commencement of academic programmes at the university. He recalled that ABUAD began academic operations on January 4, 2010, with 240 pioneer students, and has since evolved into a globally competitive institution.
According to the senior advocate, the university has not only surpassed many older institutions in performance but has also emerged as a benchmark for quality and functional education in Nigeria and beyond. He noted that ABUAD’s achievements over the years demonstrate that age is no barrier to success, adding that he founded the university at about 80 years old.
Highlighting key milestones, Babalola said ABUAD has consistently ranked among the world’s best universities, referencing its inclusion in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings among the top 100 universities globally. He also pointed out that the institution was ranked as the number one university in Nigeria in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
He added that the university has distinguished itself as a leader in disciplines such as Law, Medicine and Engineering, overtaking several older universities and establishing a strong global brand in higher education.
Babalola expressed gratitude to God for guidance and sustenance since the establishment of the institution, describing the journey as one driven by faith, sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to excellence. He also commended the university’s management and staff, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, for translating his vision into a thriving academic institution.
While celebrating the achievements, the founder cautioned against complacency, stressing that sustaining success requires greater effort than achieving it. He urged both academic and non-academic staff to remain disciplined, committed and focused, noting that maintaining high standards is a collective responsibility.
In her remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Smaranda Olarinde described ABUAD’s 16-year journey as a reflection of visionary leadership, discipline and dedication to excellence. She said the university’s steady rise in national and global rankings underscores the clarity of its founding vision and the commitment of staff and students to academic integrity, research relevance and innovation.
Olarinde added that ABUAD’s recognition by reputable global ranking bodies was the result of deliberate policies, strict adherence to standards and sustained investment in infrastructure, teaching and research.
