Bakare took to Instagram to call out a social media user who, she said, went as far as cursing her father in a direct message. The actress questioned the audacity of such behaviour, saying the attack crossed a line.
“People are coming into my DM to curse my dad, and y’all said I shouldn’t talk? My father?” she wrote, expressing outrage over the message she received.
The actress made it clear that she would not remain silent in the face of personal insults, stating that she does not consider herself a celebrity bound by public expectations of restraint. “I am not a celebrity, so I will lose home training,” she added.
In an emotional post, Bakare urged the troll to focus on their own life and mortality rather than criticising how others grieve. She questioned who would mourn them when they are gone and how they would be remembered.
“Instead of worrying about how others are grieving for their loved one, why not ask yourself, who will grieve for you when you’re gone, and how would they grieve for you? Worry about your own end,” she wrote.
Bakare’s response has since drawn widespread attention online, with many social media users praising her for defending herself and calling out harassment during a period of mourning.
Allwell Ademola was laid to rest on Friday, as colleagues and fans continue to pay tribute to the late actress and celebrate her legacy in the Nigerian film industry.
