In a statement posted on its official X handle, LASTMA said the event, organised in support of President Bola Tinubu, will lead to restricted vehicular movement along several major roads within the Agege axis.
According to the agency, the marathon will commence from Agege Local Government Area and move through Odo Eran, Oba Ogunji, Oke Koto, Oniwaya and Dopemu. The route will further connect Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road to Agbotikuyo, link Old Ipaja Motor Road, and terminate at Orile Agege in the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area.
LASTMA said traffic restrictions along these corridors are necessary to ensure the safety of participants and smooth conduct of the event, urging motorists to make use of alternative routes during the period.
Vehicles approaching from Wemco Road were advised to divert through Ogba, pass Excellent Hotel, connect to College Road, and proceed via Iju Road. Motorists coming from Pen Cinema were advised to go through Moshalashi Alhaja, link Mobil Ashade, and continue their journey from there.
The mini-marathon, tagged “Run for Asiwaju 2027,” was organised by the Orile-Agege LCDA under its chairman, Mr Dipo Liadi. Organisers said the event is aimed at fostering unity, discovering athletic talent and mobilising grassroots support for President Tinubu’s leadership ahead of the next general elections.
The race featured multiple categories, including youths, professionals, elderly participants, persons with disabilities, VIPs, and representatives of Hausa and Igbo communities, to promote inclusivity.
Prizes totalling ₦2.3 million were up for grabs, with the first 200 finishers receiving ₦10,000 each, while seven elite athletes were awarded ₦50,000 apiece.
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, a prominent supporter of the event, had earlier confirmed his participation in the VIP category, describing the marathon as symbolic of President Tinubu’s “transformative leadership.”
LASTMA urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officials deployed along the routes and plan their movements ahead of time to minimise inconvenience.
