According to the National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD), 56 patients are currently receiving hospital treatment, including five children listed in critical condition. The agency expressed concern over the continued spread of the disease, particularly among unvaccinated populations.
The outbreak has also resulted in fatalities. The NCCD disclosed that Mongolia’s measles-related death toll rose to 12 after an additional death was recorded on December 30.
In response, health officials have renewed calls for parents and caregivers to ensure children receive full immunization against measles. The NCCD stressed that two doses of the measles vaccine provide effective protection against the disease and significantly reduce the risk of severe complications and death.
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness spread through respiratory droplets and direct contact. Symptoms commonly include fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat and inflamed eyes, and the disease can be particularly dangerous for young children.
Authorities continue to emphasize vaccination as the most effective measure to curb the outbreak and protect public health.
