In a show of support and encouragement, Mozambique’s President Daniel Francisco Chapo has promised a special bonus of 500,000 meticais—equivalent to about 11.3 million naira—to each member of the national team and coaching staff if they defeat Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) round of 16 in Morocco.

The announcement comes after the Mambas secured a spot in the knockout stage of the 2025 AFCON, despite a 2-1 defeat to Cameroon in their final Group F match. Their progression to the round of 16 has been hailed as a remarkable achievement for Mozambican football.

President Chapo, in a message to the players and coaching team, praised their determination, bravery, and hard work during the group stage. “This accomplishment makes the entire nation proud,” he said, noting that the team’s performance has brought renewed hope and excitement to football fans across the country.

To further motivate the squad, the Head of State confirmed that the additional 500,000 meticais per player and coach would be awarded if Mozambique overcomes the Super Eagles and advances to the AFCON quarterfinals. “The entire nation stands behind you, and we believe in your ability to triumph over Nigeria,” he added.

Mozambique will face Nigeria on Monday, January 5, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, in a match that promises to test the resilience and skill of the Mambas as they aim to make history in the continental tournament.
