A leadership transition is set to take place at Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) later this month, as the company announces a new chief executive officer to steer its next phase of operations.
The gas company has appointed Leye Falade as its incoming CEO, with his tenure scheduled to begin on April 26. Falade will succeed Philip Mshelbila, who has led the organisation through a period of operational consolidation and growth.
Falade joins NLNG from Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad, where he has served as managing director since April 2024. Before that role, he was Shell’s country chair for Namibia between September 2023 and April 2024, further strengthening his leadership credentials within the global energy sector.
His relationship with NLNG spans several years. Between May 2019 and September 2023, Falade was general manager, production, overseeing critical aspects of plant operations. He had earlier served as operations manager at NLNG from July 2015 to May 2018, playing a key role in operational efficiency and reliability.
International exposure also features prominently in his career. Falade worked as regional AMS implementation manager at Shell in The Hague, Netherlands, from May 2018 to April 2019. Overall, NLNG notes that he has built experience across upstream and midstream assets in seven countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia and Africa.
The company described the incoming CEO as a seasoned energy professional with strong capabilities in gas and petroleum operations, product optimisation, engineering, business improvement and change management.
Falade holds an engineering degree and an MBA from Henley Business School in the United Kingdom, qualifications that complement his extensive technical and executive experience as he prepares to take the helm at NLNG.
