Ahead of its forthcoming convention, the Old Students’ Association of Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Obantoko, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has reiterated its commitment to advancing quality education, digital skills development, and sustainable growth within the school community.

The association disclosed this during a pre-convention press briefing, outlining the focus of the event and its ongoing contributions to the school.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the National Public Relations Officer of NUDGOSA, Sanni Damilola, the Global President, Alhaji Fasiu Bakene, said the association remained dedicated to promoting strong moral values and discipline among students and alumni.

Convention Theme and Historical Background

Bakene revealed that the theme for the convention is “Empowering Tomorrow: Quality Education, Digital Skills and Sustainable Development.” He emphasized that the association would continue to uphold moral values, discipline, and excellence.

He also highlighted the school’s origins, noting that Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School was established on January 19, 1962, by the Nawair-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria with 33 pioneering students. Over the years, he said the institution has grown into a respected school that has produced leaders and professionals across Nigeria and beyond.

While the school was initially founded to empower Muslim children through education and character development, Bakene noted that its scope has broadened significantly. He stated that the institution has evolved into an inclusive school serving the wider community without discrimination.

Convention to Bring Alumni and Community Together

The convention, scheduled for Saturday, January 24, is expected to bring together alumni from various generations, founding fathers, royal fathers, religious leaders, partners, students, and friends of the school. Bakene said the event would showcase the association’s contributions to the school’s growth and development.

He listed several interventions carried out by NUDGOSA, including:

  • Renovation of school gates and perimeter fencing
  • Improvement of classrooms
  • Installation of solar-powered lighting
  • Deployment of CCTV-supported security systems
  • Provision of healthcare support
  • Supply of learning materials

Welfare Support and UK Chapter Initiative

Bakene further stated that the association remains committed to the welfare of its members, as well as the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school. He also announced that the association’s United Kingdom chapter would unveil a 50-bed girls’ hostel during the convention.

He commended members for their unity and dedication, urging alumni both in Nigeria and the diaspora to participate in the event.

“The convention will serve as a platform to inspire current students, promote academic excellence and reinforce the values of integrity, discipline, service and leadership,” he said.

Bakene also expressed gratitude to the school management, religious leaders, and the host community, led by the Ntoko of Obantoko, for their continued support.
