Staff of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) have been called upon to maintain focus, uphold integrity, and embrace righteousness as key drivers for improved revenue generation and economic growth.
The charge was given by the Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Olugbenga Olaleye, during the agency’s New Year prayer session at its Oke-Mosan headquarters in Abeokuta. Speaking to employees, Olaleye emphasized that integrity remains central to building and sustaining public trust, particularly among taxpayers.
“Do your work diligently. The new tax laws are similar to the millennium era, when many were uncertain about what would happen. As tax regulatory authorities, you have a lot of responsibility,” Olaleye said, urging staff to communicate the objectives of the ongoing tax reforms effectively.
He highlighted that educating citizens about the new tax policies would ensure greater prosperity across all income brackets, particularly for low-income earners, while encouraging high net-worth individuals to comply with their tax obligations. According to the chairman, successful implementation of the reforms would boost disposable income, increase production, stimulate economic growth, and help reduce inflation.
In his remarks, Pastor Caleb Ayinla of Rhema Chapel International Churches, Yaba, Lagos, drew inspiration from Jeremiah 29:11-14, stressing the transformative power of prayer. He cited Biblical figures such as Job and Elijah, urging staff to cultivate a consistent prayer life as a tool to overcome challenges and achieve success.
Similarly, Imam AbdulFatai Buhari, Chief Imam of the Government Secretariat in Oke-Mosan, encouraged workers to shun hypocrisy in the workplace and adopt proactive, committed approaches to their duties. He advised that renewed intentions and sincerity would set a positive tone for the new year.
The Director of Administration and Supplies at OGIRS, Olusegun Akinfaiye, gave the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to God for life and commending Olaleye for his dedication to staff welfare. He also encouraged employees to redouble their efforts to meet the agency’s 2026 revenue targets.
The event combined spiritual guidance with professional exhortation, reflecting OGIRS’s focus on ethical conduct, public education on tax reforms, and staff motivation as it seeks to strengthen compliance and drive economic growth.
