The decision was disclosed in JAMB’s weekly bulletin published on the Board’s official website on Monday. According to the bulletin, the initiative will be implemented through the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group, as has been the practice in previous years, to ensure that qualified candidates with disabilities are fully supported in the examination process.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, made the disclosure during a meeting with key stakeholders at the Board’s national headquarters in Abuja. He reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to promoting inclusiveness and safeguarding the welfare of persons with disabilities through targeted interventions.
Prof. Oloyede explained that the scheme covers a wide range of disabilities, including Down syndrome, autism, dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), among others. He said the free application documents are part of ongoing efforts to remove financial and structural barriers that may hinder access to higher education for affected candidates.
According to him, candidates who wish to benefit from the initiative must meet the minimum academic requirement of five O’Level credits obtained in not more than two sittings. He also disclosed that blind candidates would be provided with audiobooks to support their preparation for the examination.
The registrar described the audiobooks as digital versions of standard printed materials, noting that they would be available in commonly used audio formats such as MP3, WMV and WMA to ensure compatibility with a wide range of devices.
He added that the initiative reflects JAMB’s resolve to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates, regardless of physical or learning challenges, while promoting fairness in access to tertiary education.
Meanwhile, JAMB has confirmed that registration for the 2026/2027 UTME commenced on Monday, January 26, and will close on Saturday, February 28. The Board urged prospective candidates to complete their registration within the stipulated period and adhere strictly to the outlined guidelines.
