The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international partnerships and enhancing trade cooperation through a high-level diplomatic cocktail reception held in Abuja.
The event brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of diplomatic missions, senior government officials, and top security leaders in a move aimed at fostering stronger institutional relationships, improving trade facilitation, and deepening collaboration on border management and economic development.
Held at the rooftop of the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, the gathering served as a platform for dialogue and engagement between Nigeria’s customs administration and members of the diplomatic community.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Chief of the Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, members of the Customs Management team, and senior representatives from key government and security agencies.
Customs Chief Reaffirms Commitment to Diplomatic Community
Addressing guests at the reception, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed appreciation to Nigeria’s international partners for their continued support in strengthening bilateral and multilateral relationships.
He acknowledged the role of diplomatic missions in promoting trade, investment, and international cooperation, while assuring them of the Service’s commitment to supporting their operations in Nigeria.
“We recognize and appreciate your contributions to strengthening diplomatic and trade relations. The Service remains committed to providing the support and services required for diplomatic missions to operate effectively in Nigeria,” he said.
According to the Customs boss, the Service has continued to expand its global engagement strategy through structured partnerships with customs administrations across the world.
Expanding Global Customs Collaboration
Adeniyi revealed that the Nigeria Customs Service currently maintains collaboration frameworks with more than twenty customs administrations globally, focusing on knowledge sharing, capacity building, intelligence exchange, and operational cooperation.
These partnerships, he explained, are designed to improve trade facilitation, strengthen border security, and enhance customs operations in line with international best practices.
He stressed that as global trade becomes increasingly interconnected, customs administrations can no longer operate in isolation.
Instead, he noted that stronger cooperation among governments, customs agencies, diplomatic missions, and security institutions has become essential for addressing emerging challenges in international commerce and border governance.

The Comptroller-General further highlighted the growing importance of collective action in tackling issues such as illicit trade, cross-border crimes, supply chain disruptions, and evolving compliance requirements.
According to him, sustained collaboration between customs administrations and diplomatic partners remains critical to improving revenue generation, boosting trade efficiency, and enhancing national economic competitiveness.
He explained that modern customs administration now operates within a complex global ecosystem where trust, information sharing, and coordinated responses are necessary to achieve effective results.
“The modern customs environment requires continuous engagement, trust-building, and shared responsibility among international partners to effectively address emerging challenges in trade, security, and compliance management,” he noted.
