Nigeria is one of the African countries where access to
electricity is limited or nonexistent, and this has seriously affected the work
and lives of its residents. However, solar energy has emerged as a solution to
electricity challenges to cities and marginalized communities, enabling basic
amenities such as lighting, refrigeration and communication.
To this end, BlueTTI Power, an energy storage company that
specializes in providing solar power solutions, including large-capacity power
supply as well as power generator equipment that is designed to be used for
various applications such as camping, outdoor activities and emergency
situations, last weekend, donated 100 units of its solar home systems to
students at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, through the TETFUND Centre
of Excellence in Skills, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainable Development
(TETCoE), Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos.
This was done as part of the BlueTTI corporate social
responsibility (CSR) project tagged “Lighting an African Family (LAAF).” The
LAAF project is one of the company’s frameworks for Africa’s underprivileged
households or individuals. It is a commitment to sustainable development that
is working to bring power to every corner of the world, including students,
intending to encourage their creative projects and research activities.
The event took place in the college hall of the school with
a large turnout of students in attendance. Among the school officials in
attendance was Mr. Sherifudeen Ayodele Oja, director of the school’s TETfund
Centre of Excellence in Skills Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development,
representing the acting rector, and student union government officers.
Oja thanked the company for the initiative to empower the
students. He explained that the BlueTTI vision was directly in line with the
vision of the school’s TETCo, which is skills and sustainable development.
“Out of the six TETFUND established across the six
geopolitical zones in the country, Yabatech TETCo is one, and having a power
solution company, BlueTTI, choose our school as their first point of call to
benefit from their initiative, LAAF, is appreciated.
“This donation will provide students with reliable and
efficient power solutions to support their research and innovative projects.
This is a positive step towards supporting sustainable development and
innovation in Nigeria, and it’s in line with the vision of TETCo. This commitment
should be undeniably recognised and backed by stakeholders in the education and
technology sectors,” he said.
A tech enthusiast and YouTuber, Mr. Adeyemi Joseph,
enumerated the advantages of BlueTTI products, which include its lithium iron
phosphate battery, which gives it a safe operation and longer lifespan; its
multiport; and its anti-surge capacity.
At the event, some students won solar systems and other
gifts through the raffle. The donation included the Bluetti E40 Solar Home
System, with a capacity of 40 Wh able to perform a variety of functions,
including home lighting, outdoor charging and powering wireless routers.
