    UNILAG School of Foundation Orientates Newly Admitted Students

    As part of efforts to prepare newly admitted students of the School of Foundation Studies (SFS), University of Lagos (UNILAG) for their academic journey, officials from various units of the institution addressed the 2023/2024 intakes of the School at an orientation programme held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Jelili Adebisi-Omotola Auditorium, UNILAG, Akoka.

    University officials including the Deputy Director of the School, Dr. Temitope Onuminya, Deputy Director of Centre for Information Technology and Systems (CITS), Dr. Adewale Ibukun, and Principal Assistant Registrar, Students Affairs Division, Mrs. Janet Aregbesola shared crucial information and valuable insights on academic expectations, course registration procedures, library resources, and extracurricular activities available on campus.

    They emphasized the importance of time management, effective communication with faculty members, and active participation in both academic and non-academic pursuits.


    Earlier in his remarks, the Director of the School of Foundation Studies, Professor Solomon Akinboye congratulated the students for successfully gaining admission into the school, disclosing that a total of Two Thousand, Two Hundred and Eight students (2,208) were admitted in the academic session.

    He noted that the Foundation Programme serves as a stepping stone towards higher education journey, provides a solid foundation in various disciplines, and prepares students for the challenges that lie ahead.

    Professor Akinboye explained that the SFS Orientation Programme was designed to familiarize the students with University’s policies, facilities, resources, and academic expectations. His words “You have made a good decision to embark on a path that will shape your future, and we are honored to be a part of this transformative journey”.

    One of the key topics discussed during the orientation programme was the international exchange opportunities available through the International Relations Partnership and Prospects (IRPP) Office of the University. The wide range of exchange programs, as well as opportunities to study abroad and gain international exposure, were highlighted to the students.

    The representative of the IRPP office, Miss Toyin Ganiyu pointed out the benefits of participating in such programs. This includes cultural immersion, academic enrichment, and personal growth.

    Similarly, a member of the university’s Security Unit, Mr. Esan provided detailed information about the measures put in place to ensure a safe and secured environment for all students. He discussed emergency protocols, campus surveillance systems, and encouraged students to be vigilant as well as report any suspicious activities promptly to the unit.

    The importance of comprehensive health coverage while studying at the university was also covered by Mrs. Olufunlola Olaleye of United Health Care International. She spoke on the significance of maintaining good health and encouraged the students to prioritize their well-being throughout their academic journey.
