According to a report from market research firm Omdia, the
Cupertino-based tech giant is likely to upgrade the Vision Pro to an RGB OLEDOS
display in 2027, a notable improvement over the WOLED with color filter used in
the first-generation model.
RGB OLEDoS technology produces light and color directly from
nearby RGB sub-pixels on a single layer, putting an end to the need for a
colour filter, MacRumors reported.
As per the report, this leads to notably elevated Brightness
in contrast to WOLED and color filter OLEDOS displays, which rely on the
filtration of White light through an RGB color layer.
Additionally, it surpasses WOLED and color filter Technology
in terms of efficiency.
Omdia report revealed that South Korean tech Giant Samsung
is currently the only company Capable of supplying RGB OLEDOS displays following
its acquisition of eMagin earlier this Year, with the conmpany likely set to
take over from Sony in Apple’s supply chain if it proceeds with the upgrade.
According to MacRumors, Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple Analyst,
echoed Omdia’s prediction, suggesting a potential release window in 2027 for
the second-generation Vision Pro headset. Kuo indicated the possibility of no
hardware updates for the Vision Pro until that time. While there have been
reports of Apple aiming to introduce a more affordable headset by 2025, there
is some uncertainty surrounding the current status of these plans.
Meanwhile, Apple Vision Pro is set to launch in early 2024.
Multiple experts, now including the notable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, predict that
the mixed reality headset could hit store shelves in the US in late January or
early February.
Kuo claims that Apple will ship 5,00,000 units of the Vision
Pro headset in 2024. He also says the headset is in mass production and that
the first shipments will arrive in the first week of January.
