The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has urged higher education institutions across the nation to implement entrepreneurship courses and skills development programs aimed at fostering self-sufficiency among their graduates.
This call comes as the Abia State Government has cautioned
private universities within the state to maintain high standards.
During a one-day Stakeholders’ Forum at Amadeus University
in Amizi, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, JAMB Registrar, Prof
Ishaq Olyede, emphasized the urgent need for society to cultivate job creators
rather than job seekers.
We aspire to create a university that not only imparts
knowledge but also ignites passion; a space where students evolve into leaders,
entrepreneurs, and agents of change; a community free from the influence of
cults and disruptive individuals; a hub where innovative ideas are cultivated
and aspirations come to fruition, he stated.
The JAMB chairman confirmed that Amadeus University has
received all the necessary approvals and licenses to function as a private
institution and pledged support for the university.
Prof. Olyede, represented by JAMB's Abia State Coordinator,
Juliet Anikwe, remarked, “Amadeus University is recognized and accredited by
the NUC, approved by JAMB, and has a partnership with JAMB.”
He expressed confidence that the university would fulfill
its primary mission.
During the forum, Abia State's Commissioner for Tertiary
Education, Prof. Eme Uche Eme, emphasized that the state would not accept any
deviation from established standards but rather seek enhancements to fortify
the education sector.
She urged the newly established university, set to commence
in September, to align with the transformative initiatives of the Alex Otti
administration, which has, for the first time in the state's history, achieved
a 25% budget allocation for education. Prof. Eme affirmed the state's
dedication to maintaining the highest educational standards across all levels.
As we prepare for the official start of academic activities
in September 2024, I would like to reaffirm our dedication to maintaining the
highest educational standards.
The Commissioner urged the Management of Amadeus University
to recruit qualified staff, particularly lecturers who can dedicate time to
their students, enforce a strict policy against cultism and other anti-social
behaviors, and ensure continuous security on campus.
She praised the Founder for establishing the university,
stating that it signifies a commitment to the future of young people and the
progress of education.
"Amadeus University is not merely another institution
in our educational framework; it stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to
our resolve to deliver world-class education that is accessible to everyone.
With an emphasis on innovative teaching practices, advanced
research, and community involvement, Amadeus University is poised to become a
center for intellectual and professional growth," the Commissioner
remarked.
She assured that the Government would support the
university's success.
In a statement, Vice Chancellor Prof. Samuel Nzotta assured
the Forum that the institution is fully prepared to begin academic activities
in September.
He emphasized that the university was founded with a
distinct vision to cultivate graduates who are globally competitive and
practically oriented, aiming to make a positive contribution to sustainable
societal development.
Furthermore, he noted that the institution has achieved full
accreditation for 19 programs across 13 departments and four faculties.
"The university is poised to become a global brand,
offering students the chance to evolve into visionary, skilled, and
development-focused leaders with a strong emphasis on innovation and
entrepreneurship," the Vice Chancellor remarked.
Additionally, the former Vice Chancellor of the University
of Uyo, who also chaired the National Universities Commission (NUC) Standing
Committee on Private Universities, expressed his approval of the institution's
facilities.
His Royal Highness, Eze Ozo Ananaba, the Traditional Ruler
of Amizi Autonomous Community, pledged the community's full support and
cooperation.
"Our community will fulfill all necessary obligations.
We are thankful that this university has been established on our land by our
accomplished son," the monarch stated.
