Harvey Weinstein, the imprisoned Hollywood producer, has recently undergone emergency heart surgery. He was transported from prison to a New York hospital for the procedure.

Currently serving a rape sentence at Rikers Island, Weinstein was admitted to Bellevue Hospital on Monday, September 9, 2024.

The 72-year-old underwent pericardiocentesis, a surgical intervention aimed at removing excess fluid from the heart and lungs.

His attorney, Craig Rothfeld, reported that Weinstein is experiencing pain from the surgery and is also contending with several other significant health issues that require attention.

Weinstein is serving a 23-year sentence in New York after being convicted of sexual assault in Los Angeles in 2020.

He has faced allegations of sexual misconduct from over 90 women, although he has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
