Chidimma Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has shared her reasons for deleting her X (formerly Twitter) account, emphasizing her concerns regarding mental health.

In an interview with Arise 360, she discussed how the online environment had become increasingly overwhelming due to persistent criticism.

At just 23 years old, Chidimma had previously endured significant backlash during her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant, a situation that intensified when the South African Department of Home Affairs accused her mother of fraud and identity theft. This allegation further exacerbated the scrutiny she faced online.

Reflecting on her journey, Chidimma noted that the barrage of negative comments adversely affected her well-being.

“I had to delete it because I felt like it was too much for me. I’m a comment reader, so I read each and every comment,” she revealed. “For me, I could spend 80% of my day reading comments, and it became toxic.”

The ongoing engagement with online negativity prompted her to take a step back.

While she still uses Instagram, she has chosen to limit her comment section temporarily to better manage the negativity.
