The Ogun State Government has announced the temporary closure of the iconic Olumo Rock Tourist Complex starting Monday, April 14, 2025, to allow for extensive renovation and safety upgrades.

This was made known in a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, who emphasized that the move is part of broader efforts to boost tourism and preserve cultural heritage within the state.

“As part of efforts to boost tourism and preserve cultural assets across the State, the Ogun State Government will begin the renovation and facelift of the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex which will lead to temporary closure of the site from Monday, April 14, 2025,” the statement read.

The commissioner revealed that Olumo Rock welcomes over 70,000 visitors annually, and the site deserves a modern and safe environment befitting its status.

“This development is part of a broader commitment to revamp one of our most iconic tourist destinations, improve visitors’ experience, and ensure safety measures during the renovation,” he added.

The state government apologized for any inconvenience the closure may cause and assured the public that further updates will be provided as renovation progresses.

Olumo Rock, located in Abeokuta, remains one of Nigeria’s most visited cultural landmarks, rich in Yoruba history and spiritual significance.
