In a recent reflection on her artistic journey, Nigerian gospel singer Sunmisola Agbebi offered a deeper look into the spiritual convictions that shape her work. The fast-rising vocalist, known for her breakout hit “Koseunti,” described her songwriting not as a creative exercise but as a faith-driven process rooted in prayer, worship, and meditation on scripture.

Agbebi explained that many of her songs arrive unexpectedly during moments of spiritual intensity, which she interprets as divine nudges rather than flashes of personal ingenuity. “My relationship with God is the foundation of everything I do musically,” she noted, emphasizing that she sees herself more as a conduit than a composer. Attempting to create purely from personal effort, she added, often feels hollow compared to the clarity she experiences when she believes God is guiding her melodies.

For the young artist, music functions as a ministry before anything else. She views each track as an assignment meant to strengthen the faith of listeners or draw them into deeper spiritual reflection. Her goal, she said, is that audiences “encounter God” through her voice rather than simply enjoy a performance.

Agbebi’s devotion to gospel music traces back to her upbringing in a musically inclined Christian family, where she began singing at the age of four. Her public recognition grew after she won the Ikorodu Radio Music Challenge in 2017, a moment that helped propel her into the national spotlight. Since then, she has built an impressive résumé, hosting her own live-recording concert — AIIIH (As It Is In Heaven) — and performing at major global events, including the Dubai Expo alongside Grammy-winning composer A. R. Rahman.

Her personal life also made headlines in 2023 when she married fellow gospel artist Yinka Okeleye, forming a partnership celebrated by many within the gospel community.

International acclaim has continued to follow, with notable appearances on the African All-Star US Tour and a 2024 nomination for “Artist of the Year – Female” at the Kingdom Achievers Awards. Through her steady rise, Agbebi maintains that her purpose remains unchanged: using her voice to convey messages she believes are divinely inspired and to encourage believers to embrace worship as an intimate, transformative experience.
