    Nigeria Records 917 New COVID-19 Infections as Total Cases Surpass 90,000

    The total number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the nation surpassed 90,000 on Sunday, according to a running tally by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

    Across Nigeria, there were 9 more coronavirus-linked deaths and 917 new COVID-19 cases recorded in 16 states  and the Federal Capital Territory in the past 24 hours. The nation has now reported 90,080 total cases and 1,311 fatalities since the start of the pandemic in February 27.

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) made this known via its official website.

    NCDC added that 255 patients have been discharged after testing negative twice from the disease.

    Data released by the health agency on its Twitter handle shows that FCT accounting for the highest number of infections for the day with 222 cases, followed by Lagos, Kaduna and Plateau with 214, 119 and 92 cases respectively.

    Other affected states were Nasarawa-50, Oyo-41, Adamawa-33, Ondo-32, Abia-28, Ogun-19, Rivers-17, Kano-16, Yobe-14, Edo-8, Anambra-6, Ekiti-5 and Jigawa-1.

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has conducted about 955,429 tests since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced.

    According to NCDC on the 3rd of January 2021, 917 new confirmed cases and 9 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

    Till date, 90,080 cases have been confirmed, 75,044 cases have been discharged and 1,311 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
