The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has taken a proactive step following the implementation of the NSIB Act 2022 by organizing a consultative meeting with stakeholders. The purpose of the meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, July 18th, 2023, is to gather valuable input from stakeholders regarding the amendments required to align the Bureau’s regulations with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13 Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).
In a statement sent to The Ameh News (TAN) which was
endorsed by James Odaudu, PhD Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection
saying Engr Akin Olateru, the Director General of the Bureau, emphasized that
these amendments are essential to ensure regulatory consistency and
adaptability to evolving technologies and global industry changes. By engaging
stakeholders, the NSIB aims to foster collaboration and gather diverse
perspectives on enhancing air safety and security.
The meeting will be attended by various key players in the
aviation sector, including members of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON),
all holders of valid Air Operators Certificates (AOC), security agencies, and
individuals involved in air safety and security matters. The Nigerian Civil
Aviation Authority (NCAA) Director General’s Conference Room in Abuja will
serve as the physical venue, with simultaneous Zoom sessions being arranged for
remote participants. Detailed information about participating online is

In addition to the advisory council, NSIB is also stepping
up preparations for the upcoming International Civil Aviation Organization
(ICAO) safety audit in Nigeria in August. Engr Olateru expressed confidence in
the Secretariat’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities and ensuring
that Nigeria maintains leadership in all aspects, particularly with respect to
NSIB operations.
The agency’s proactive approach to prioritizing stakeholder
engagement and regulatory coordination reflects the agency’s commitment to
maintaining aviation safety standards and embracing technological advances.
These efforts will help improve safety across the aviation industry and ensure
a robust and efficient system that benefits all parties and the traveling
public.
