UK-based Nigerian gospel singer, Blessing Kpokpo has released her maiden album “Rain of Glory,” with 12 soul-inspired and spirit-filled tracks.
Kpokpo, a Radiographer by profession, came all the way down
to Nigeria from the UK to launch the album at the Madestic Studio, Oregun area
of Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday, 17 November, 2023.
Some of the tracks in the album are ‘Eyes Have Not Seen,’
‘Fresh Fire,’ ‘Testimony,’ ‘Baba You Too Much,’ ‘Na Grace O,’ ‘Do Your Work in
Me,’ ‘The Healer,’ among others.
Kpokpo displayed her musical skills during the live
performance of some of the tracks. Popular gospel artiste, Peterson Okopi was
live at the event to the delight of the audience.
Okopi joined Kpokpo to perform one of her songs ‘The
Healer.” The atmosphere was electrified as the duo took to the stage for a
stupendous performance.
Speaking, Kpokpo, who said she is a Radiographer by
training, stated at a point in her career, God spoke to her about doing His
work through ministration in songs, but she said she found it hard to hear what
He was saying.
She said God had to stop her job and spoke to her again. “He
was like this other job, you have gotten three offers, I am not going to grant
you what will make you stay in the UK if you don’t do my work. I had no choice,
I had to do what God said I should do, so I had to locate a studio and start
doing what God said I should do. God has given so many people dreams, and
projects to handle but the problem is that people are hesitant in doing God’s
will.”
“This is my first album but it is loaded. I have about 12
tracks here. Eyes have not seen, Fresh fire, Testimony, Baba you too much, Na
grace o, Do your work in me, I know who I am in Christ. The album is loaded, as
you connect to my song, Fresh Fire, you will receive the anointing that will
take you to where God wants you to be,” she stated.
On what inspired her, Kpokpo simply said “What inspired me
is God. I have also gotten inspiration from so many people but I never knew I
would come into singing like this. When it was God’s time, He made me
understand this is why he called me.
“I have been singing in the choir, I have been singing from
my youthful age, when I was a child, from 10 years till my current age. God
mandated me.”
On where she wants to be in the next five years, Kpokpo said
she is not just a musician, but an evangelist musician.
“I am not just a musician, I am an evangelist musician, so
my dream is that I want to travel around the world, taking Jesus to the world,
making people understand their place and position in Christ, making people see
what God has in store for his children. We need to take Christ to the world,
some people love music and we need to give them quality music,” she said.
On challenges in the gospel music industry, the gospel
artiste said “The only thing I see that might make Christian music not have
power is that most people are coming in for the sake of money. A preacher
should not preach for the sake of money, money might come thereafter, but
people are beginning to leave what God is saying because they want to please
the audience. If you are doing Christian music, Christ is our source.”
On why she left the UK to launch the album in Nigeria,
Kpokpo stated: “That is because there is fire in my soul. Don’t forget what I
told you, I am going to reach the world, but I think I should start from my
base, this is my base. People should know me first, celebrate me first, it
won’t be proper that I am doing American music, UK music and my people don’t
know what I am doing, that is why I am here.”
