Ghana have sacked Chris Hughton as their head coach
following the national team’s exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
His dismissal was confirmed by the Ghana Football
Association Tuesday night.
The Black Stars were eliminated from the group stages, after
taking only two points from their three Group B matches.
Their slim hopes of qualifying as one of the four best
third-placed teams ended on Tuesday, thanks to Mauritania’s shock 1-0 win over
Algeria in Bouaké.
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that
Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior
National team with immediate effect.
“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days
provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” GFA’s official
statement read in part.
Hughton’s backroom staff have all also been let go by the
federation.
