Race for West Ham Target Matty Cash Hotting Up

West Ham target Matty Cash has been one of the best right-backs in the Championship in recent years and has attracted interest from the Premiership.

Nottingham Forest had been battling for automatic promotion all season. After a poor run of form dropped out of the play-off spots, after a dramatic goal swing on the last day of the season. Now Forest yet another season in the Championship. West Ham should have been buoyed by this news as they have been linked to two of their players in the past.

The Hammers have been linked to centre-back Joe Worrall and star full-back Cash. West Ham manager David Moyes has outlined that investing into the defence should be a priority for the club. The Hammers conceded 62 goals this season, which was one of the worst records in the Premier League.

As Forest will be in the Championship next season, West Ham should be able to come and poach their most promising talent. The Hammers have had success signing talent from the lower division, most recently Jarrod Bowen has proven to be a fantastic purchase. There will be hope from the Hammers that Worrall and Cash would follow in Bowen’s footsteps.

Cash has had a brilliant season individually at the City Ground. The Forest youth graduate has made forty-two appearances in the Championship, scoring three goals and assisting a further five. As well as his impressive attacking skill Cash has also had good season defensively. The 22-year-old has played his part in one of the best defences in the league. According to whoscored.com Cash averaged 2.6 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per ninety minutes showing he could be a solid member of the West Ham defence.

The bad news is the Hammers are dragging their feet in the transfer market. With reports of the club having to sell in order to buy, other clubs have started circling around the Hammers long-standing targets. Southampton and Burnley have now overtaken David Moyes’side in the chase for Cash.

If the Hammers are to improve on their disappointing 2019-2020 campaign they are going to need to move quicker in the transfer market to cement their targets.
