Its highest ever daily infection since the
outbreak of the virus in February 27, 2020.
The daily case count on Wednesday was up from
the 2,123 infections reported on Tuesday.
In its daily COVID-19 bulletin, Nigeria Centre
for Disease Control NCDC said the country’s cumulative total number of cases
now stands at 231,413.
Two more deaths were linked to the coronavirus as of Wednesday. This
takes the country's death toll from coronavirus complications to 2,991.
In the same 24-hour span, 92 patients in the country were discharged. A total of 211,853 people in Nigeria have recovered from COVID-19 thus far.
The number of active COVID-19 cases also
continued their upward trend, with 4,022 cases reported on Wednesday, total now
stands at 16,569.
According to update, Lagos state reported more
than half of the new infections and its highest number of cases since the start
of the pandemic.
The epicentre of the disease in Nigeria, on Wednesday
reported 3,393 of the confirmed cases.
However, NCDC noted that today’s case count includes
additional 2,536 confirmed cases reported in Lagos state on 13th (37), 14th
(365), 15th (197), 16th (577), 18th (742) & 19th (618) December.
Among the new cases, 260 infections were
recorded in Rivers, 62 in Edo, 42 in Akwa Ibom and 39 in Kaduna.
Ekiti and Oyo states reported 38 cases each, Delta
and Kano had 31 cases each, Ogun had 30 and Abia had 26 cases.
Fifteen of the cases were recorded in Bauchi, fourteen
in Ondo, nine in Enugu and seven in Kwara state.
The health officials also stated that the case
count includes 42 confirmed cases reported in Akwa Ibom state on 20th (13)
& 21st (29) December.
And 9 confirmed & 6 discharged cases
reported in Enugu state on 21st December.
While zero cases were reported in Gombe, Osun and Sokoto State on Wednesday.
