Nigeria added 536 new coronavirus infections in
12 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
While the active cases in the country continue to increase, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC data showed that the country’s daily new cases continue to follow a downward trajectory.
The active COVID-19 caseload in Nigeria now stands
at 25,066.
The number of people who have recuperated from
the disease surged to 214,778, with additional 482 recoveries reported on Saturday.
Which 198 recoveries reported in Rivers State on 31st December 2021 (122), and
1st January 2022 (68).
According to the breakdown released by NCDC, Lagos,
again reported over half the new infections on Saturday, the epicentre of
coronavirus in Nigeria registered 259 cases.
Followed by Rivers, the third most affected by
the virus in the country reported 90 cases.
Other states with new cases include Oyo-46, Edo-43,
Kaduna-29, FCT-25, Cross River-12, Nasarawa-10, Osun-6, Gombe-5, Kano-5, Ogun-5
and Jigawa-1.
While four states with zero cases reported:
Bauchi, Ekiti, Ondo, and Plateau.
NCDC further stated that today’s report
includes 90 cases reported in Rivers State on 31st December 2021 (58), and 1st
January 2022 (32).
As of January 1, 2021, the country has
witnessed 242,877 cases of the
coronavirus infections, while 214,778 people have recovered from the disease,
and 3,033 COVID-19 fatalities have been confirmed.
