No Burna Boy without Daddy Showkey, Wizkid without D'banj

In a recent episode of the Hip TV program “Trending,” veteran talent manager and music executive, Obi Asika, made a noteworthy claim regarding the current landscape of Nigerian music.

Asika expressed the belief that the emergence of today’s crop of Nigerian artists is deeply intertwined with the legacy of veteran singers who paved the way before them.

He specifically pointed out the symbiotic relationship between the newer generation of artists and their predecessors, highlighting the influence of iconic figures like D’banj and Daddy Showkey.

Asika drew parallels between some of Nigeria’s most celebrated contemporary artists and the trailblazers who came before them.

He asserted that Wizkid, one of the most prominent names in the industry today, can be seen as a successor to the legacy of D’banj. Similarly, Asika suggested that Burna Boy, another chart-topping artist, follows in the footsteps of Daddy Showkey, a legend in Nigerian music history.

During his appearance on the program, Asika emphasized the significance of acknowledging the contributions of past legends to the current music scene.

He highlighted the inspiring journey of pioneers like 2Face and Daddy Showkey, whose grassroots beginnings laid the foundation for the thriving music industry seen today.

Asika underscored the notion that the success of contemporary stars like Burna Boy and Wizkid is intricately linked to the groundwork laid by these esteemed predecessors.

Moreover, Asika’s remarks shed light on the interconnected nature of Nigeria’s music industry, suggesting a lineage of influence that extends across generations.

He implied that artists like Davido, who have risen to prominence in recent years, draw inspiration from the artistic legacies of past icons such as P-Square.

Through his insights, Asika offered a perspective that highlights the continuum of Nigerian music, bridging the gap between past and present while acknowledging the enduring impact of the industry’s trailblazers.
