Two weeks
after the confirmation of the ‘most transmissible’ delta variant of the
coronavirus disease in Nigeria, cases are now consistently on the rise again in
the country.
No virus-related fatality were reported in the past 24
hours.
The number of patients who have been discharged after
recovered from the disease also increased by 39.
The new COVID-19 infections reported on Tuesday by the
nation pushed its tally to 171,728, while the death toll from the virus stands
at 2,134 and the number of recovered COVID-19 patients is now 164,837 in 36
states and the Federal Capital Territory as the worst pandemic escalated across
the Africa continent.
Active cases in Nigeria now stand at 4,747.
Out of the 404 new cases recorded on Tuesday, 356 were from
Lagos. The city saw a total of 62,668 cases, 58,515 being discharged and 456
dead since the beginning of the pandemic.
Also, Rivers reported 18 cases, FCT had 7 cases Ekiti and Kaduna reported
5 cases each.
Gombe and Kano with 3 cases each, Edo and Ogun had 2 cases each, while Bayelsa, Plateau and Nasarawa reported 1
case each.
Today's report includes 0 cases from Sokoto, Oyo, Imo and
Enugu States, NCDC noted.
