    COVID-19: Nigeria Reports 828 New Infections

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in its pandemic update reported another 828 cases of COVID-19 in 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory in the 24-hour period.

    The recent report reflects a significant decrease in cases from the prior day, when there were 1,584 cases.

    Number of deaths increased by zero in the data released Saturday. The death toll since the pandemic began in February 2020 remained 2,984 as of Saturday.

    Saturday’s update also reflects 149 new recoveries. The nation has so far deemed a total of 211,522 cases of the virus to be resolved.

    NCDC stated that today’s report brings the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Nigeria to 223,483 including deaths and recoveries.

    The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria went up by 886 to 8,977 from 8,091 it was on Friday

    Of the new infections reported Saturday, 188 cases were found in Rivers, 183 in Lagos, 97 in Delta, 82 in FCT and 67 in Oyo.

    Edo reported 54 cases, Ekiti and Plateau had 34 cases each, Kano had 27, Anambra had 22, Kaduna reported 19, Enugu reported 12, Ogun had 5 and Kwara reported 4 cases.

    While Bauchi, Ondo, Osun, and Sokoto States reported no cases of the virus on Saturday.

    NCDC noted that today’s report includes backlog of cases reported in Delta state include backlog from 7th - 17th  December.
