Nollywood actors, Charles Inojie and Ali Nuhu have teamed up in the campaign against domestic violence in Nigeria.
The actors took to their respective social media pages to
share a video wherein they spoke against the culture of silence in matters
related to domestic violence in the country.
In the video, Inojie and Nuhu were confronted with a
disturbing scenario of domestic violence in a restaurant.
The film stars were faced with the choice to either mind
their own business or speak up.
Although Nuhu instinctively decided that they should ignore
the situation, Inojie said: “Evil thrives when good men keep quiet”.
Together, they spark a collective demonstration with the
other people in the restaurant by making noise to show their disapproval and
take a stand against the violence.
According to a statement, the actors said they hope the
video “inspires bystanders to take action, to make halla in their own way”.
“This is an issue close to the heart of both Inojie and
Nuhu, as it is likely to be for many Nigerians,” the statement reads.
“Research shows 1 in every 3 Nigerian women have experienced
domestic violence.
“The rallying cry, #MakeWeHalla, is an open invite to us
all, encouraging bystanders to show that they oppose domestic violence.”
Through the video, the actors are inspiring Nigerians to
recognise their power to speak up when they witness domestic violence within
their communities.
