Social Media Influencer Says He Can’t Afford State’s Demand
Popular TikTok content creator Peller has expressed frustration over what he describes as an excessive income tax bill issued by the Lagos State Government. Speaking during a recent livestream alongside singer Peruzzi, the online personality claimed the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) asked him to pay ₦36 million in taxes.
“Taskforce said I should pay ₦36 million for tax. I don’t have anything. I just came into the limelight last year,” Peller lamented.
Peruzzi Urges Compliance
Peruzzi, who joined the discussion, reminded Peller of his civic duty to pay taxes as a Nigerian citizen. “Do you know you’re supposed to pay tax as a Nigerian? Do you know how much I pay as tax? I won’t mention it here but it’s more than the tax bill they gave you,” the singer said, adding that settling the bill could help him avoid potential legal trouble.
‘Government Never Gifted Me’
Peller, however, argued that the demand was disproportionate, especially for someone whose earnings are largely generated from social media streams and not from local business activity. He claimed the authorities were targeting him because he had showcased his assets and revealed his TikTok income publicly.
“The government has never gifted me anything during my live sessions,” he said, insisting that his income was not sourced from Nigeria.
Peruzzi suggested that Peller seek more time to pay, but the influencer maintained that the bill was unjustified.
