    22 New COVID-19 Infections Reported in Nigeria

    Nigeria continues to see a “rapid decline” in COVID-19 cases as it begins to emerge from the surge driven by the Omicron variant, as active cases in Nigeria stand at 20,521.

    Nigeria confirmed 22 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC said Saturday, adding that 38 COVID-19 patients have recovered over the same period of time.

    This includes 25 community discharged cases reported in FCT.

    The number of COVID-19 cases reported since the start of the outbreak of the virus rises to 254,243, while recoveries increase to 230,587 i.e. a recovery rate of 90.7 percent, according to the health officials.

    As for coronavirus-related fatalities, NCDC added that the deaths toll remained 3,142  as no patient was confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications in past 24 hours.

    The 22 new infections were recorded in 5 states and the Federal Captital Territory, NCDC said in the latest update.

    According to the updates via its Facebook page, 13 of the new infections were recorded in Lagos, 4 in Osun and 2 in Kaduna, while Ekiti, FCT and Oyo reported 1 case each.

    NCDC noted that today’s report includes 10 states with zero cases reported: Abia, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Nasarawa, Ogun, Ondo, Plateau, Rivers and Sokoto.
